National Law School of India University , Bangalore

Introduction: The Mecca of modern Indian legal education NLSIU, Bangalore is said to be "the Harvard of the East". Bar Council of India and the Government of Karnataka created this most elite law school of the country in 1987 with Professor N.R. Madhava Menon as its founder-director. NLSIU has many firsts to its credit. It is the single faculty university i.e., law university in the country introducing a 5 years integrated B.A. LL.B. course for the first time. It brought legal education at par with medicine and engineering where a student joins the course just after passing 12 th . NLSIU is ranked to be the No. 1 law school of the country year after year. Nalsar University of Law , Hyderabad

Introduction : NALSAR University of Law was established under the Andhra Pradesh Act as a fully residential university engaged in teaching and promoting research in law and allied disciplines. The University campus is located on a sprawling 55-acre site abutting the Shameerpet Lake , about 28 kilometres from Hyderabad Airport whilst its City Centre is located in Barkatpura, Hyderabad . West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata

Introduction : On being invited by the Government of West Bengal to establish a national level institution of excellence in higher learning in law in 1999, renowned academician and former founder director of NLSIU, Bangalore , Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon came out after retirement to set about establishing NUJS. Subsequently, the West Bengal Legislature adopted the West Bengal NUJS Act, 1999 to create the fourth National Law University after Bangalore , Hyderabad and Bhopal . Initially housed in the small quarters of forest department, the University shifted to its state of the art permanent campus at Salt Lake City in 2003. NUJS is equipped with well-developed library, computer section and a legal services clinic. NUJS students have excelled in Moot Court competitions not only in India but also at abroad including the USA.

Introduction: NLIU, Bhopal is a premier national level institution set up by the Government of Madhya Pradesh on the lines of National Law School , Bangalore . NLIU has very sound infrastructure, among the best in the country. National Law University , Jodhpur

Introduction : The National Law University , established by National Law University Jo dhpur Act, 1999, is the fifth National University for Legal Education in the country following the institutions at Bangalore , Hyderabad , Bhopal and Kolkata. NLU, Jodhpur is a bold experiment in legal education as it claims to be truly multi-disciplinary. The University, in due course shall develop twelve schools which include School of languages, Social Sciences, Science and Forensic Science and School of Management Studies among others. NLU, Jodhpur has been able to procure sound infrastructure with support from State of Rajasthan and it has launched legal education in combination with Humanities, Sciences and Business Administration.

Gujarat National Law University , Gandhinagar

Introduction : Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is a statutory university established by the Government of Gujarat under the GNLU Act, 2003. The youngest National Law University commenced its first academic session in July, 2004. GNLU is established and inspired to join the top league of National Law Schools at Bangalore , Hyderabad , Kolkata, Bhopal , Jodhpur and Raipur . Presently, it is situated in the Old NIFT Campus at Gandhinagar. The new project of GNLU Campus shall have all the facilities of a modern university including a well-stocked and networked library and sound IT infrastructure.

Hidaytullah National Law University , Raipur

Introduction : Sixth in the chain of National Law Schools in the country, the State of Chhattisgarh established under the Hidaytullah National University of Law Chhattisgarh Act, 2003, HNLU to emerge as a University of Law of great repute. HNLU aims to be Unus Unorum , the roman dictum which means, the first among equals. The University is a centre of excellence devoted to multi-disciplinary study and research relating to legal sciences. It has a respectable library and own computer centre. National Law University of Delhi , established in 2008 by an Act of National Capital Territory of Delhi, is another premier Law University joining the elite group of National Law Universities established in India . Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, lucknow

Introduction : Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, was established by an Act of the Legislature of Uttar Pradesh in 2005 (U.P. Act No. 28 of 2005) and it came into being on 4th of January 2006. The University has been established to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal process and to develop in the students and research scholars a sense of responsibility to serve the society. Introduction : CNLU is located in the ancient city of Patna , capital of Bihar , India . It was established under the Chanakya National Law University Act, 2006 and included in section 2(f) of the U.G.C. Act, 1956. Introduction: The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) has been established to be a national level institute of excellence in higher learning of law in the State of Kerala by the Government of Kerala by virtue of the Act 27 of 2005. The curriculum, teaching methods and examination system shall be quite unlike in any conventional colleges in the country. The Bar Council of India has recommended 37 subjects (including 4 training courses) for the 5 years LL.B Course. However, the NUALS is offering 40 to 50 subjects with nearly one-third of them providing wide variety of options to the students. The students shall be required to write projects in each subject, they may also be asked to involve in extension activities like legal aid services, clinical projects like woman and law, media and the law, environment and the law etc. Placement for a period of at least one month every year may be resorted to by the University as an important component of the course. The students will be conferred with B.A, LL.B (Hons.) Degree at the end of 5 years.

National Law University , Orissa

Introduction: NLU, Orissa was established in Cuttack under the National Law University of Orissa Act, 2008. It is the first university to impart B.A., LL.B., (Hons) Program with the BBA, LL.B. (Hons). The students can opt for courses for both disciplines and hence can combine humanities courses with a human resources and marketing course. It has also introduced other new courses in Legal Journalism and legal mass communication in conjunction with law degree course. In the first year the students from 22 States appeared for its Entrance Test and cleared and took admission. It is a self-financing law university sharing quality based faculties from India and foreign countries. NLUO also focuses on mining law, food law, water law, energy law and agriculture law. It is located on the banks of River Mahanadi with the classrooms and library affording a energetic view of such river. It is a close-to-nature location of the campus. NLUO offers 24 hours internet facility to its students and teachers even beyond working hours with best online library facilities.

Eligibility: Senior Secondary School Exam (10 +2) or equivalent with not less than 50% marks in aggregate. Those who have appeared in Exam in March/April 2010 can also apply for its entrance exam.

Age Limit: Bellow 21 years as on 1st August, 2010 23 years in case of Scheduled Castes or Scheduled Tribes.

Allotment of Seats: General- 78, Scheduled Tribes-14, Scheduled Castes-10, Physically Handicapped - 4, Foreign Nationals - 4, NRI/NRI Sponsored - 10 = Total 120 Seats.

National University of Studies and Research in Law, Ranchi

Introduction: National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) has been established by an act of the state legislature of Jharkhand. NUSRL is the newest i.e. 14 th National Law University of the country. :: Citing lack of evidence, the Madurai bench of Madras High Court (HC) set aside the death penalty imposed on two persons in a quadruple murder case. The Tirunelveli 2nd Additional Sessions Court Judge T S Nanda Kumar awarded death sentence to Kaattu Raja (32) and ''Vettum'' Perumal (33) on December 26, 2012 for murdering Jayakumar (35), his wife Shanmugathaai (33), their daughters Indhira (11) and Bhuvaneswari alias Chitra (8) in their house at Meenavankulam village in Tirunelveli district on April 19, 2007. Jayakumar was working as watchman of a farm. Kaattu Raja suspected that his wife Subbalakshmi (29) was having an illicit affair with Jayakumar and enraged over this, he and his relative Perumal hacked all the four members of the family to death. The victims belonged to Scheduled Caste community. The Kalakadu police had registered a case of murder under the provisions of IPC and also slapped charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Kaattu Raja and Perumal
